Our upcoming guild meeting is Saturday, April 2, 2011, from 10 am to 2pm at the South Branch Reformed Church in Hillsborough, NJ. In addition to hooking, we will have a short business meeting. Some things to keep in mind:
* attendance at 1 meeting is free. Dues for the year are $10 and can be paid to MJ Whitelaw at the meeting. If you join our Guild, you must also joing the national ATHA guild whose dues are $26 annually. There are benefits to joining at the national level which includes ATHA's magazine which is in color! This periodical offers rug hooking information, biographies, stories of rugs, info on rughooking groups and upcoming events! * we'll be working on the sheep centerpieces for the Biennial being held in Lancaster, PA, this coming October. Directions and copies of samples were e-mailed to members awhile back. We will have copies of patterns and a few hooked samples at the meeting. * It can be a bit chilly in our meeting space. Dressing in layers is encouraged. Feel free to cook/bake something to share with the group. Some bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee and tea are offered at no cost to attendees. * Do bring rugs for show-n-tell! Bring a friend! Looking forward to seeing all of you! http://americancolorwoolens.blogspot.com/
Congrats and good luck to Jeannine Happe and Karen Worthington on your business venture milling your own woolens! The Guild members really appreciated you coming down to our Guild meeting earlier this month despite both of you having to run your own busy rug hooking studios and now a joint venture. Sure says alot about your committment to the Guild! Thanks! Hope to see you both at our future meetings! http://www.spruceridgestudios.com/notforgotten/lbrechlin.html
13 new rug hooking patterns by Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm for Kris Miller of SpruceRidgeStudios. Thanks to all those who came out. We had a great time. Pix to follow.
Next meeting 4/2/11, "same bat-time, same bat-channel"! Here's a link to RugFest that's being held on Saturday, March 26...a must-do at least once (and it's off of US 301 for those of you who are US history buffs...lots o' history along the way there): http://www.virginiarugfest.com/ For those of you who also indulge in quilting, the following article was in our local newspaper. March 3-6th and the NJ Garden State Exhibit Center. Perhaps after our Guild meeting, you may want to drive about 15 minutes from SBRC to see all the beautiful quilts.

http://primitivebettys.blogspot.com/2011/03/remember-whats.html In her most recent post, Betty talks about wooly composition covers she made for her friends based on a Maggie Bonanomi design. With so much wool in my house, I'm gonna have to make a few of these! Hope to see y'all this coming Saturday, March 5th. Bring your hooking, rug(s) for show-n-tell, something to eat and/or share if you feel so inclined, bring $10 for dues and a few singles (as in dollar bills) for our attendance and gift raffles. Woohoo! Cheers, Kathleen Murray-Boyda President, GHA Our next meeting, weather-permitting (more like "cooperating") will be this Saturday, March 5th. Time is from 10am - 2pm. A few of us will be bringing some food items to share...feel free to cook and/or bake! Others may want to bring their own brown bag lunch. Coffee/tea will be available.
Remember...if you haven't sent your dues into MJ Whitelaw, you can also bring them to this meeting. Attendance at one meeting is free; thereafter dues must be paid. We will begin with a business meeting. Please bring a rug to hook on as well as some rugs for show-n-tell, even if they are "in-progress". Looking forward to seeing old friends and making some new ones! See you on the 5th. Cheers, Kathleen Murray-Boyda President, Goat Hill ATHA Read on:
"Dear Dorr Customers, As you may have read most commodity prices are rising rapidly and wool is no exception. We will be raising our retail prices from 5 to 10%, this will include dorr wool, swatches, stripettes, single strips, dorr bundles, hand dyed pieces and hand dyed bundles. We will be honoring your orders at the old prices until February 28, 2011. Our new prices will be effective starting March 1, 2011. Sincerely, The Dorr Mill Store Terry Dorr" http://dorrmillstore.com I just read that Kim Nixon, a most gifted rug hooking artist and teacher, died yesterday. The Wig Wag Rug that is featured here on our website was designed by Kim; she hand-dyed most of the wool. I had the pleasure of meeting Kim and spending a little time with her several years ago at RugFest in Richmond, Virginia. She was warm, cordial and funny. She was the featured artist and speaker at RugFest.
Our heartfelt condolences are extended to her family and friends. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available. |
